What you should know about
the translation industry in the US
In the US, translation is largely unregulated.
Anyone can claim to be a translator, buy business cards, and write a resumé listing qualifications. There are no regulations requiring certification, accreditation, or licenses. Some universities offer translation programs culminating in certificates, and the American Translators Associations has a certification program for translators. But certification is not offered in all language combinations, and many excellent translators have no certification or accreditation of any type.
